Building Resilient Coastal Economies in a Changing Climate: Highlights from SINNTECH Webinar #35

On 31 March 2026, Salwa Raihana, Business Development and Project Manager at Senang Eco, was invited as a guest speaker at SINNTECH Webinar #35, hosted by the Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada. Titled “Marine Environmental Documentation: Sustaining Economic Resilience”, the webinar is part of the ongoing SINNTECH series, which brings together experts to discuss pressing issues at the intersection of marine environments, climate change, and economic sustainability.
The session provided a comprehensive look at the current state of Indonesia’s marine ecosystems and the growing challenges faced by fisheries and coastal communities. Speakers highlighted how climate change is increasingly disrupting ocean conditions, making marine ecosystems more unpredictable, and directly affecting fishing patterns and livelihoods.
One of the key discussions emphasized how shifting ocean dynamics, driven by climate variability, are altering traditional fishing zones and reducing catch reliability. These changes are placing additional pressure on fishing communities, who are now required to travel further distances with less certainty of returns, leading to increased economic vulnerability.
In her session, Salwa Raihana underscored that climate change is no longer solely an environmental concern, but a socio-economic issue that affects food security, income stability, and community resilience. She highlighted the importance of building a resilient coastal economy through a multi-dimensional approach that includes strengthening community capacity, diversifying livelihoods, and fostering collaboration across stakeholders.
Senang Eco’s participation in this webinar reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting sustainability transitions through knowledge sharing, stakeholder engagement, and practical solutions. By contributing to platforms like SINNTECH, Senang Eco continues to play an active role in advancing dialogue and action toward more resilient and sustainable coastal futures.
