Webinar Recap: How to Strengthen Business with Sustainability
August 7th, 2024

In today’s world, sustainability is a strategic necessity. Companies that embed sustainable practices not only protect the environment but also create long-term value for customers, shareholders, and society at large. Through these efforts, they contribute to a greener and happier future for all.
Recognizing that advancing sustainability requires collective effort, Senang Eco recently partnered with Bakrie Center Foundation to host a webinar titled “How to Strengthen Business with Sustainability.” The session brought together experts and practitioners to share insights and practical steps for integrating sustainability into business strategies.
Here are some key takeaways from the discussion:
Innovation in Action
Sustainable innovation drives growth and environmental impact. Mr. Pungkas Bahjuri Ali, Expert Staff for Social Affairs and Poverty Reduction at Indonesia’s Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), highlighted Great Giant Food as a standout example. By implementing a circular economy and zero waste system, the company generates up to 85 billion IDR in revenue annually.
Focusing on Sustainability Hotspots
Identifying priority sustainability issues allows companies to focus their efforts where they matter most. Andrian Dwi Kurniawan, CEO of Senang Eco, emphasized the importance of understanding each company’s unique nature and priorities to define these “hotspots” and translate them into targeted action.
Authentic Storytelling
Sustainability storytelling is about authenticity, not greenwashing. Jessica Anandajoo, sustainability consultant and stakeholder engagement expert, advised companies to align their storytelling with their actual sustainability progress. Narrowing down priorities helps create a genuine and credible brand narrative.
Sustainability as a Competitive Advantage
Integrating sustainability into business strategy is essential for staying competitive. Rob de Laet shared that companies with strong sustainability commitments often outperform their peers financially, reinforcing sustainability as a driver of profitability.
A Shared Responsibility for the SDGs
Mr. Bahjuri Ali, who also serves as Head of the National SDGs Secretariat at Bappenas, underscored the critical role of the business sector in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Businesses can contribute by reducing carbon emissions and creating inclusive, equitable jobs to ensure no one is left behind.
The conversation is just beginning. As our CEO reminds us, “Sustainability is a journey,” one that requires continuous effort and commitment.
