What Three Weeks in Melbourne Taught Us About Sustainability and Collaboration

Collaboration has always been a key part of advancing sustainability. While environmental and social challenges often vary across countries and sectors, meaningful progress is often built through shared learning, diverse perspectives, and strong partnerships.
From 20 April to 8 May 2026, Andrian Dwi Kurniawan, Founder and CEO of Senang Eco, participated in the Professional Placements Program 2026 in Melbourne, Australia. Supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and Strategic Development Group, the program brought together emerging leaders from Southeast Asia to gain exposure to Australia's business ecosystem through professional placements and cross-sector engagement.
Selected from more than 250 applicants across Southeast Asia, Andrian represented Senang Eco throughout the three-week program, which was hosted by one of Australia's Big Four firms. The placement provided opportunities to experience a different professional environment, engage with industry practitioners, and exchange perspectives with participants and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
The first week of the program highlighted the value of collaboration in driving sustainable impact. Through formal discussions, workplace interactions, and networking opportunities, participants explored different approaches to sustainability, business engagement, and regional development. These exchanges demonstrated how cross-border collaboration can create space for new ideas, practical learning, and long-term partnerships that extend beyond the program itself.
Beyond the professional experience, the program also offered opportunities to build meaningful connections and better understand the shared challenges and opportunities facing Australia and Southeast Asia. Conversations both inside and outside the workplace provided valuable insights into how collaboration, innovation, and cultural exchange can contribute to more sustainable and inclusive development.
For Senang Eco, this experience reinforces the importance of strengthening regional partnerships and learning from different perspectives to support sustainability efforts. As we continue working across environmental, social, and economic sustainability issues, we look forward to applying these lessons and building further collaboration with stakeholders across Indonesia, Australia, and the wider Southeast Asian region.
